Day 4 - Freedom Center, Newport Aquarium

The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is a wonderful museum. The history it teaches is interesting and important. Aside from that, it's a fantastic facility with large foyers and a majestic aesthetic. Top shelf attraction. I guess it's a bit easier when Oprah is one of your supporters.

Today we also visited the Newport Aquarium. Like yesterday, we saw a lot of cool creatures, only this time, of course, of the aquatic variety. We also decided to pay the extra money to get tickets to the Penguin Encounter. About a dozen or so people (including us) were brought behind the scenes of the aquarium and into the penguin house. Inside, the nice guide introduced us to three real, live penguins, and then we were allowed to pet them! That's right: We got to pet honest-to-god penguins!

It was a busy day, and when we got back to our hotel we found that we had been upgraded to a jacuzzi suite, so we had a nice hot soak. All in all, a great day.

Tomorrow we've got a few small stops in the morning to see some spots we missed, and then we're off on the long trek home. As such, I'm not sure if we'll have a video tomorrow or if it will just be late. I'll let you know!

Home soon,

Day 3 - Cincinnati Zoo

Today we went to the Cincinnati Zoo. We saw all kinds of awesome animals. The Cincinnati Zoo is top-knotch. Not only did it have great animals, but it was also a well thought out attraction with lots of space, shade and cooling stations. (They had some great water mist areas for keeping cool. Jon, you've got to figure out how to build one at home!)

We also went to see a movie in "4D" which was a regular 3D movie, but with other senses too, such as water spraying on you a breeze that smelled like the ocean (in a good way). We saw the one about undersea life that didn't include Spongebob Squarepants.

After a nice long day at the zoo, we drove out to White Castle for some burgers.

We're off for some sleep!

Day 2 - Windsor to CINCINNATI!

We were both a little nervous going across the border. We weren't doing anything wrong, but uniformed officers always seem to put the fear of God into me. The customs lady was actually very friendly and made us feel at ease.

We had a little trouble getting on the I75 due to (sigh) detours. A biiiiig long detour. But we still made it to Big Boy in time to have lunch. Yum! I know why Dr. Evil hides out there.

Another nice surprise was the price of gas. Quite a bit cheaper than back home. That makes our trip that much more affordable. Also making it affordable is our awesome hotel. Free popcorn and soda (their word), and a happy hour with free snacks (NACHO BAR!) and drinks. We also get a hot breakfast for free and internet for free. This place is great! Thanks Drury Hotels!

Cincinnati itself is very nice. It's a very pretty city with beautiful architecture. It's clean and the few people we encountered were very friendly and helpful.

We made it over to Skyline Chili for some Cincinnati style chili. It tasted a bit odd at first bite, but before I knew it I was pounding the sucker back. (We're bringing some home to share.)

After dinner we made our way across the bridge to Kentucky. It was very different from Cincinnati in terms of appearance. Different buildings, mostly. We were just driving around and didn't get out of the car, but we hope to soon. Very pretty looking place. From there we could also get a great look at the Cincinnati skyline from across the river. Just a beautiful view.

We're taking it easy now. Tomorrow promises to be a busy (but fun) day!

Day 1 - Toronto to Windsor

We left home (Midland) on Saturday to visit our friends in Toronto. Sunday morning, we met up with our friends to watch The Dark Knight at 8:30AM (because every other screening was sold out for days!), then we had some delicious brunch.
We packed up, said goodbye to our friends and headed down the 401 to Windsor. It wasn't a very eventful trip (except for a big, big detour), but it was nice to spend some time with Betony in the car.
We've settled down for a quiet night in Windsor, then tomorrow we're going through the tunnel to Detroit and then it's off to Cincinnati on the i75.

Who knows what we'll see!

On the Road Again...

This is where you'll be able to find out about the exploits of Betony and Bryan on their trip to Cincinnati, Ohio!

Our trip will begin in Toronto and Windsor, Ontario before heading to the US and i75.
